It’s been one year since The Scented Market was on Dragons’ Den and we are reminiscing about how amazing the experience was!
In 2022 Kristy Miller, our Founder & CEO, headed to Toronto to pitch The Scented Market to the Dragons. This wasn't the first time, as she pitched back in 2019 but didn't make the cut. The dragons encouraged her to come back once she had more experience and sales under her belt.
Well, the second time was a huge success and Kristy received offers from all six of the Dragons! She ended up choosing an offer from Arlene Dickinson and Michele Romanow.
Since it is the one year anniversary of our episode airing, we asked Kristy to share her thoughts and experience on Dragons’ Den.
Q: How do you feel when you think back about the experience?
K: As a CEO and entrepreneur, my professional and personal growth has been incredible. Dragons’ Den really put the numbers and financial data in front of me, which was good because it gave me a different outlook on how we were running our business. It has also helped to guide and inform me in terms of managing our product selection and which direction I want to take the company.

Q: What did you learn from this experience?
K: My biggest takeaway is to always put yourself out there, even if it's uncomfortable. It can pay off and it can be life changing. I also realized I was underestimating my value before my experience with Dragons’ Den!

Q: How has the business grown since being on Dragons’ Den?
K: Since our airing, our business has dramatically increased, to the point where we upgraded our manufacturing facility to one that is five times bigger, and we employed more local people for production. As a result of this, our turnaround time for online orders has improved, from five days to 24 hours! We are so happy to be able to get orders into your hands sooner so you can enjoy your self-care goodies ASAP!

Q: What are your goals for TSM in 2024? Beyond 2024?
K: My short term goals include decreasing our environmental impact even further, and launching a new shower gel product in our top-selling candle scents.
Long term I want to expand The Scented Market into the U.S. and continue to grow the business online.

Q: What's your advice for anyone thinking of pitching to Dragons’ Den?
K: I’d tell them to take the chance, take the risk, know your numbers, and be humble. In addition, I always encourage others to “dream a size too big so you can grow into it!” This has been my tried-and-true motto for a long time.
