Here at The Scented Market we are known for our soy candles, but, in case you didn't know, we also carry soy wax melts! We love both to scent our homes, but want to take a moment to shine the spotlight on wax melts because there are some pros to using them over candles. Here are a few of the most noteworthy.
Wax melts are used by breaking off a chunk of wax and placing it in a ‘warmer’, ‘burner’ or ‘melter.’ These typically have an enclosed tealight or light bulb to melt the wax. They operate without an open flame so it's a safer choice than candles if you have little ones or pets running around. We sell a couple different warmers, such as the Large Matte White Swirl tabletop and the smaller Home Sweet Home wall plug-in. Both have a simple, elegant look to compliment your home decor!
Wax melts don’t produce any soot because they are being warmed rather than burnt. In contrast, a lit paraffin candle can release soot into the air which can then stain materials in the vicinity, i.e., your walls, furniture or curtains. This soot can be carcinogenic and potentially cause respiratory or other health issues if inhaled or ingested.
Longevity and cost
Because they are only warmed to release scent, wax melts last longer than candles do. The wax is not in direct contact with a flame and thus does not evaporate; only the scent dissipates. Since the wax lasts longer, you will save money not needing to buy it as frequently as you might with a candle.
Some people do not like a lot of scent, but when you light a candle, there is no controlling how much scent is being released. This makes wax melts ideal — you can break off however much you want to warm at a given time! Want a lot of scent? Put two cubes in your warmer! Want a little scent? Put only half of one!
Speaking of half, something fun that you can try is combining scents to make a new one. For example, try placing half a melt each of Creme Caramel and But First, Coffee to create a caramel macchiato scent. You can mix and match scents to find one absolutely unique and perfect to you!
Using wax melts and a wax warmer is a relatively safe, clean, cost-efficient and customizable way to enjoy scent in your home. If you’d like to give it a go, we have many different scent options, from seasonal to signature, that you’re sure to love.
